Young Audiences of Western New York Poses the Question "What Do You Advocate For?"

July 08, 2014 | jarred@ya.org

What Do You Advocate For? This is the question that Young Audiences Arts for Learning (YA), and Young Audiences of Western New York (YA-WNY) in collaboration with Emerging Leaders in the Arts Buffalo (ELAB) will explore during this free, public event. What Do You Advocate For?  is part of the larger Buffalo Emerging Leaders Institute, an intensive 3 day experience focused on addressing functional needs relevant to successful leadership and management that is being launched by YA-WNY and the Young Audiences Arts for Learning national office.

What Do You Advocate For?  will include presentations from Institute participants, Young Audiences staff, and ELAB members on topics ranging from STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math education), to placemaking, to the power of naming things. The presentation will also feature two short films from ELAB's City of Night and Starlight Studios. It is imperative to cultivate advocacy efforts within the Young Audiences Arts for Learning network and within all arts in education organizations.

This institute focuses on developing leadership skills of arts organization's staff, but community members are also invited to get involved in learning about advocacy. This includes parents, volunteers and teachers, who would like to express their support of arts education. The event is free and open to the public, and there will be light refreshments with a cash bar.
