Young Audiences of Louisiana
Since their inception in 1962, Young Audiences of Louisiana has adapted and evolved to serve the ever-changing needs of students in their community. Young Audiences of Louisiana is a leading resource for arts and education providing residencies, performances, and professional developments to over 60,000 students in grades PK-12 throughout the state. As one of the largest providers of afterschool programs in the city of New Orleans, Young Audiences of Louisiana employs over 260 local artists and teachers who reach over 2,500 students free-of-charge in the greater New Orleans area.
Since 2000, Young Audiences of Louisiana’s operations and budgets have more than tripled. Last year, 260 teaching artists, educators, athletic and recreation specialists, and technology instructors were paid over $2.1 million to work directly with students from pre-school through high-school which accounts for 83% of Young Audiences of Louisiana’s total budget.
On August 9, 2013, Young Audiences of Louisiana opened up the first YA Charter School at Kate Middleton. They celebrated this milestone with a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception. To learn about the Charter School and the application process, visit www.yacharterschool.org.
