YA Woodruff Arts Center Summer Camp

Young Audiences partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGMCA) to offer a one-week summer camp residency for 9-10 year old students at the Woolfolk Boys & Girls Club. The Words & Movement residency, consisting of six 60-minute sessions, encouraged students to explore the creative process through words and movement. The first session, led by YA roster artist, Tasha Jones, introduced the students to poetry as a spoken art form. Each of the 5 remaining sessions, led by teaching artist, Laurin Trudeau, engaged students as choreographers in the creation of dance works set to poetry.

Poems were selected from the 2012 Marel Brown Creative Writing Program sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs. Young Audiences President, Charisse Williams and several special guests attended the culminating event at Woolfolk on July 13. The program was incredible and provided guests a unique opportunity to experience YA’s work.
