Pike Township Students Explore Young Audiences Arts for Learning Online Curriculum

Arts for Learning Indiana, an affiliate of Young Audiences Arts for Learning, is now partnering with the Pike Township Schools to bring the Arts for Learning Online Curriculum to students at elementary schools throughout the district. The partnership is part of Pike Township's 21st Century Community Learning Center Afterschool Program, and involves a once-a-week residency for students, which includes several storytelling performances throughout the school year.

Students at Central Elementary are working with professional teaching artist Shawn Whistler to use Tableaux - form of theatre similar to a "living scene"- to retell "The True Story of the Three Little Pig" from the different charaters' perspectives.

At Eastbrook Elementary, Carol Tharp-Perrin is introducing students to the practice of using collage to explore the idea of the "everyday hero" through the life of Roberto Clemente with texts including "Roberto Clemente: Pride of the Pittsburgh Pirates".

Students at College Park Elementary will work with professional teaching artist Will Gould to explore reading aloud in front of their peers with the classic novel "James and the Giant Peach".
