Kindergarten Students Celebrate the Letters of the Alphabet Through Art

75 kindergarten students will celebrate the sound and shape of the alphabet through songs, American Sign Language and dance Wednesday, December 23 beginning at 9 am at Buffalo's Waterfront Elementary school. The performance is open to families, invited guests and the media.
The celebration is the culmination of eight 30-minute reading readiness workshops which integrate song, dance, music and American Sign Language to introduce basic literacy skills. Presented by musician and teaching artist, Jennifer May, the Phonics Program: Alphabet Awareness, was developed jointly by artists and educators through Young Audiences of Western New York (YAWNY).
The Phonics Program has been offered by YAWNY for more than 15 years, reaching over 4,000 children in that time.
