Young Audiences of Northeast Texas Partners with Kennedy Center to Provide Arts-Integration Training for Teachers

Young Audiences of Northeast Texas has partnered with the Kennedy Center to bring Kennedy Center teaching artist Karen Erickson to Caldwell Fine Arts Academy and Tyler ISD. Karen Erickson is an arts integration expert, playwright, actress, and director who travels across the country and Europe in order to promote the merits of integrating the arts into everyday curriculum.

Amy Baskin, Young Audiences of Northeast Texas' Executive Director, stated that "the purpose of bringing in Ms. Erickson was to partner with the schools to increase the capacity of the teachers to use art as a teaching strategy," and that "students who have high exposure to the arts are five times less likely to drop out of school, two times more likely to be able to go to college, and also show improved academics and communication skills, and are better, more creative problem solvers."

This endeavor was made possible by a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support arts integration professional development.
