Former Arts Partners Wichita Executive Director Receives Arts Educator of the Year Award

Celebrating its 45th year, the Wichita Arts Council, in conjunction with the city of Wichita handed out the annual Art Awards this past Thursday, October 30, 2014. Congratulations go out to visionary and former Arts Partners Wichita- an affiliate of Young Audiences Arts for Learning- Executive Director Katie Lynn for receiving the Arts Educator of the Year Award, for her exemplary leadership of Arts Partners, Inc. and Kansas City Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts.

Other prestigious Wichita community members who received Art Awards include: Mayor Carl Brewer, John Harrison, Mark Foley, Kristin Beal, and Ted Ayres - as well as longstanding arts supporting organizations such as Wichita Community Foundaton, Senseney Music, and Creative Rush.

The 45th Annual Art Awards was held on October 30, 2014 at the Drury Plaza Broadview Hotel Grand Ballroom, with the reception and dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and the presentation of awards from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tickets for this event were $60 each, or $750 for a reserved table of 10. Katie Lynn joined the staff of Arts Partners Wichita as Executive Director in the fall of 2002, served on several Young Audiences Arts for Learning national board committees, served for six years as the Chair of the YA ED Council, and served as part of the National Board of Young Audiences Arts for Learning from 2010 until 2013. 

Her love of performing arts began in the third grade, with her love of the visual arts taking hold even earlier. Lynn holds a BA degree in communications with an emphasis on television, radio, film, and theatre arts. She is a past president of the boards of the Junior League of Wichita, Communities In Schools, and the Sedgewick County Family and Youth Commission. She also was elected to serve three terms as a member of the city council of Eastborough, Kansas. Lynn has provided training on nonprofit board management & development and leadership development to several local and national organizations, and has been instrumental in the establishment of Arts Partners Wichita as an innovative provider of STEM Learning through the Arts programs for students in the Wichita area.
