Developing family arts festivals in New Jersey

NRG Energy Corporation, one of the leading energy companies in the world, awarded Young Audiences New Jersey a $75,000 grant to develop family arts festivals in schools or school districts around the State of New Jersey.  The focus of these festivals is to explore the intersection of art and sustainability.  The program, called NRG Energy Creatively Green, is in development with a team of YANJ artists, staff, science teachers and sustainability experts.  The first "pilot" festival is scheduled for fall 2012 and other districts will apply for the remaining four events on a competitive basis.  Winning schools/districts will host a family event that will encourage parents and children to use their imagination, creativity and innovation around individual and community responsibility to protect our planet...beyond recycling.

On March 1st Marilyn Grounds and Deborah Shepherd, two YANJ board members, were awarded the prestigious YWCA Tribute To Women.  The award recognizes women who have made significant contributions in their professions and communities to eliminate racism and empower women. Brava!
