Young Audiences of North Texas, A Division of Big Thought
With a mission to make imagination a part of everyday learning Big Thought fosters programs throughout Northern Texas that seek to impact those on a city, home, school, and community level. These creative learning systems are built around a group of partnerships with over 100 community arts and cultural organizations as well as the City of Dallas and the Dallas Independent School District. Big Thought programs reach 300,000 children, families, and teachers annually and deliver more than one million hours of individual creative instruction and programming each year.
Highlights from Big Thought’s education and interactive programs are Library Live!, a monthly family literacy program and SLANT, a service-learning program designed to inspire youth to improve their neighborhoods and communities in unique and creative ways. Big Thought also commits itself to its most ambitious and biggest system yet, Thriving Minds. This city-wide initiative brings together organizations that believe in the power of imagination, creativity and innovation to change the way children learn.
Since 2007, Big Thought has partnered with the Dallas County Juvenile Department and Southern Methodist University's Meadows School of the Arts, to present Creative Solutions, a summer program that gives at-risk teens a positive outlet for self-expression. Creative Solutions is taught by professional artist-mentors who help students learn job skills, college readiness, and ways to channel their energy and creativity into worthy pursuits.
